AFM/DOD Lifter Failures

The most common complaint is an engine tick or tap at idle that worsens under load, often accompanied by low oil pressure warnings or consumption. GM's Active Fuel Management system on Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban V8 engines uses collapsible lifters to deactivate cylinders on the highway — but when oil degrades faster than expected, as it does in Phoenix heat, those lifters stick in the collapsed position and fail. Intake Manifold Gasket Leaks
